Meaning and associations

  • Yin–yang relationship: In relation to the Day Master, Five Phases the same phase with opposite polarity constitutes Rob Wealth: for example, Jia (yang Wood) meeting Yi (yin Wood). Compared with Peer , its opposite polarity is said to add both attraction and fierce appropriation. A yang stem meeting a yin stem is described as especially severe. At its peak phase, as Bing meeting Wu, it becomes the feared Yang Blade.
  • Core associations:
    • Social associations: Weapons and bloodshed, surgery, military campaigns, explosive force, unruly gatherings, sudden bankruptcy and staking everything on one chance.
    • Personal relationships: Opposite-sex siblings, hidden rivals and, in men's charts, an influence traditionally called harmful to the wife.
    • Temperament: A polarized temperament: outwardly accommodating but inwardly cold, strongly inclined to gamble and fearless of death. When Seven Killings combines with the Blade, it signifies an indomitable ruler; without control or transformation, the source depicts disregard for human life.

Favorable and unfavorable conditions across schools

The source treats Yang Blade and Rob Wealth as forces requiring powerful restraint or skillful transformation.

  • Most favorable: disarming formidable force
    • Yang Blade harnessing Seven Killings: A configuration associated with commanding power. A strong Day Master carrying the Blade requires Seven Killings to restrain it. The Blade is likened to a sword serving a commander: two fierce forces become useful to the Day Master. “Killings without the Blade lacks prominence; the Blade without Killings lacks authority.”
    • Output expressing talent: Without Seven Killings to restrain this force, it can be channeled into generating Eating God and Hurting Officer , turning destructive power into exceptional talent and commercial capacity: “transforming hostility into harmony.”
  • Most unfavorable: bloodshed
    • Rob Wealth taking Wealth: Rob Wealth is described as taking Direct Wealth —the wife and essential capital. When a strong chart contains Rob Wealth and exposed Wealth has no Officer or Seven Killings protection, the source predicts ruin and the death of wife or father.
    • The Blade meeting clashes or combinations: An old maxim says, “Clashes or combinations of the Yang Blade bring bloodshed.” Its extreme force is said to react badly to clashes from the Earthly Branches of annual and luck cycles, such as Zi Water clashing with a Wu Blade. This is called provoking a fierce influence, with death or serious injury predicted.

Pattern analysis: the month-command method of Ziping Zhenquan

Ziping Zhenquan treats Yang Blade and Monthly Rob Wealth as distinct patterns and examines the conditions behind their dangers.

  • Conditions for the pattern: The month command occupies the Day Master's peak phase, as Jia born in Mao with Yi exposed: this is identified as Yang Blade or Monthly Rob Wealth.
  • Quality and viability:
    • Yang Blade employing Officer or Seven Killings: The month-command Blade is extremely strong and requires Officer or Seven Killings to restrain it. Seven Killings exposed in the Heavenly Stems is especially valued. Resource added to Killings and Blade completes a combination compared to a powerful military governor.
    • Wealth as a major danger: “When Officer or Killings is exposed but not strong in a Yang Blade pattern, Wealth is most undesirable.” Although Wealth nourishes Officer and Killings, it also attracts the Blade's appropriation, which is said to disrupt order and destroy both sides.

Configuration dynamics in Di Tian Sui

Di Tian Sui examines Rob Wealth through the balance of generating and overcoming forces:

敌而不受降,助旺欺弱... 终不能臻富贵也

The opponent will not submit; strength is reinforced and weakness oppressed… prosperity and status cannot finally be attained.

With overwhelming Rob Wealth, the useful element, such as Direct Wealth, may fail to restrain it and instead provoke its destruction. A chart full of Peer and Rob Wealth with a barely surviving useful element is described as family decline and impoverishment.

如财轻劫重,食伤不现,三不真也...财多喜劫,官星制劫,四不真也

Wealth light, Rob Wealth heavy and Output absent: the third case of inauthentic Wealth… abundant Wealth needs Rob Wealth, yet Officer restrains it: the fourth case.

Ren Tieqiao describes a contradictory configuration: a weak Day Master burdened by Wealth needs Rob Wealth's support, but Officer arrests that support. Both are overwhelmed by the resources they cannot carry. The lesson is to distinguish forces that follow or oppose the chart's dynamics.

Applications: luck cycles and overall judgment

  • Fatal accidents: the Blade turning against its owner: For a strong Day Master with a powerful Blade, the source predicts surgery, severe traffic accidents or bloodshed in legal conflict when luck cycles form “three clashing with one,” or an annual combination transforms into the Blade's opponent.
  • The fallen tycoon: Heavy Rob Wealth with some initial prosperity is said to bring dramatic financial swings. Cycles that restrain the Blade raise wealth rapidly; cycles that provoke it may dissipate a fortune through gambling.
  • Harm to the wife in men's charts: A male chart crowded with Peer and Rob Wealth, repeatedly overcoming Wealth without relief, is interpreted as dominating marital authority, a tendency to violence and repeated harm to wives.
